Yes, I know folks, in blogtime we have not yet reached Kurrimine Beach and here I am posting our return trip plans.....only two months behind, and, as far as reaching KB I've only Forrest Beach yet to do. Patience.....I will get there.
The only problem now is that we are seriously 'on the road' again, but I do have a window of opportunity in the next few days once we reach Lake Maraboon.
So, now that the Marshies are indeed mobile again, what are we up to? After arriving in Kurrimine Beach on 12 June, we upped stakes on 14 August for our trip south back to Adelaide where we are due in on 13 September.
We spent our first night on the road at the free camp at Home Hill. From there we continued south along The Bruce to the turn-off to Collinsville, just north of Bowen. Collinsville is a mining town on the western edge of the coal rich Bowen Basin deposits. We are spending two nights here before making a long push south-west through the basin to pick up the Peak Downs Highway at Nebo and from there continuing on to the Gregory Highway just north of Clermont.
Capella is the target for tomorrow night before we then make the relatively short hop down through Emerald and out to the large caravan park on Lake Maraboon (Fairbairn Dam) where we shall be catching up with our very good friends Troysie and Hens Bannink for a five day stop-over and a planned plundering of the redclaw which infest the waters of Lake Maraboon in massive numbers (redclaw are something of a cross between a yabbie and a marron).
From here it will be back to Emerald and thence east on the Capricorn Highway through Blackwater until we turn south on the Burnett Highway with a planned overnight at Biloela (23 August).
Then, as a result of a recent and most welcomed invitation, we are detouring back to the coast to Burnett Heads (just north of Bundaberg) where we shall be spending three nights with Kay and Marcus, the previous owners of the Kurrimine Beach park in which we stay.
From there it will be off south down the Isis Highway, through Childers and Murgon before making our way to Proston and another overnight with friends. Once we leave Proston we plan to travel the Bunya Highway south through Kingaroy to Dalby and from there turn south-east along the Warrego to Toowoomba before making a 90 degree turn onto the Gore Highway and a planned two night stop-over at Millmerran.
Goondiwindi is the next major town in our sights, and for those who may be wondering why we are planning the detour through Toowoomba rather than going direct from Dalby to 'Gundi', the answer is simple........the Moonie Highway is a shocker, and that's being kind.
Past Goondiwindi we are making as direct a return as possible.....straight on down the Newell Highway through Mooree, Narrabrai and Coonabarrabran before branching off through Mendooran.
Beyond that it will be on down to Dubbo, Parkes, Forbes and West Wyalong until we intersect with the Burley Griffen Way which will take us west to Griffith before we turn south again on the Kidman Way to Darlington Point where we plan to put our feet up for a few days.
Then it's back onto the good old Sturt Highway all the way west back into SA at Renmark with a few days en route at one of our favourite parks in the country.....Robinvale.
Hopefully this all makes sense. As always this is Plan A , and, as happened with the phone call we received two days ago, is always subject to change. At this stage, once we leave Proston, I cannot foresee any reasons why we'll not travel as planned, but as I am want to comment....."time will tell".
