The short answer is St Helens, a fishing port on the north-eastern corner of the Tasmanian coast. For those in the know, this is right on the edge of the spectacular Bay of Fires region which is less than 15 kilometres from here.
We are now in the throes of completing our second run up the east coast before we make our way west across the mountain forest reserves (with a few more pub stays planned) through Scottsdale and thence on to Devonport. After altering our return crossing date some months ago we are now due to again board The Spirit of Tasmania on the evening of 29 March.
I'll not bore you with a run down of our adventures since my last up-date other than to say that there now remains very little of the Apple Isle which has not fallen beneath our gaze.
As you may guess from the lag in my blog, much of our time has been somewhat hectic. Apart from the pace of our activities, many of our recent destinations have been been anything but user friendly in respect of Internet access and other electronic communications, but here in Tassie that just goes with the territory.
Despite our earlier resolve that this was to be our one and only trip across The Ditch and our undiminished determination to see as much as we possibly could, we are now beginning to suspect that a return visit will be inevitable, but not for a few years and in a smaller van.
We are now due back into Adelaide as of 2 April for a six week sojourn, a stay driven by the need for yours truly to 'open wide' for some major dental repair and replacement work. Liz plans to again minister to the sick and injured during this period and, of course, we'll do the rounds of our normal medicos whilst 'home' (and I'll hopefully have finally caught up with the blog!)
The social calendar is already looming as hectic, driven in part by the fact that, all things being equal (which they often aren't!), we'll not be back in the 'ole home town' for a few years (but that's been said before).
Once we leave in May we plan to wander north up 'The Track' to Katherine and thence back into WA for the remainder of 2018, before heading back east across the Nullarbor in late February 2019 to make the most of the best of the weather on SA's West Coast. June 2019 should see us back into our winter stamping grounds at Kurrimine Beach for a few months and beyond that is in the lap of the Gods.
