WHERE ARE WE NOW AND WHERE ARE WE GOING? (17 JUNE 2015)

I am embarrassingly behind real time with these missives. The past seven weeks have been full on. Places which had previously been little more than dots on a map or features in a news item have come to life for us. Reality has superseded imagination and preconceptions. But his all comes at a cost.....time...there are just not enough hours in our travelling days!

Given that I am, in real time, a month adrift, and also given that I know I have so much more to write about our activities of the past four weeks as we made our way further and further north along the vast distances of the Western Australian coast through Port Headland, 80 Mile Beach, Broome, and  Derby, and east through Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek to Kununurra, I thought a 'where are you?' update was in order.

As I write we are about to up stakes from Kununurra, where we have just spent a fascinating week, to make our way to the caravan park and resort at nearby (80 kms away) Lake Argyle.  We are planning at least five days here (if not seven depending on the site we are allocated.....shade has become very important) before we finally make our way out of Western Australia.

A night in Timber Creek will precede a few days in Katherine, which we anticipate reaching by about 25 June.  From there we shall be heading south along 'The Track'. Our planned itinerary (barring unforeseen circumstances) includes a couple of days lolling in the hot pools at Bitter Springs (Mataranka), a (hopefully) rollicking evening at the Daly Waters pub, an overnight at Renner Springs and a return to Tennant Creek for a resupply. We should be there by 4 July.

From there we shall be tracking over old ground, east across the Barkly Highway towards and over the Queensland border.  At this stage our planned stops include a single overnight at Barkly Homestead, and then the same at the free camps at Avon Downs, Fountain Springs and Julia Creek before we take a breather at Hughenden for a couple of days on or about 10 July. All this will involve merely passing through Camooweal, Mount Isa, Cloncurry and Richmond....been there, done that!

After another overnight in Charters Towers on 12 July and a re-supply stop in Townsville on the following morning (Dan Murphy's of course), we hope to be back in our old stamping ground of Kurrimine Beach on 13 July.

Here our usual site awaits us, as do good friends (both management and guests) good fun, good weather, and, hopefully some good fishing. We shall again be 'on holiday' after what will have amounted by then to three months of pretty hectic sightseeing and travelling from one side of the country to the other. I am sure that by then the 'inner gypsy' in us both will have been satisfied for at least six weeks or more.

The Toowoomba garden festival in the last week of September is looming large in our future plans, as is a visit to Canberra for the 'Floriade' (and to catch up with Olivia and Dean of our Denham meeting and beyond) before we make our return to Adelaide for the Xmas period.

At this stage our return date is up in the air.  It depends on the timing of the Adelaide Test Cricket match and our need to make appointments with various medical specialists and others. We are booked into Adelaide Shores from 2 December 2015 until 5 January 2016, but either side of that is yet to be determined.  All things being equal, we are looking at being 'home' for about two and a half months before we resume our nomadic lifestyle.

These are the plans for the next six months or so, but as I have often said, "a plan is just a blueprint for change."  Only time will tell, but from now until mid September at least, I can't foreseen any major changes.

And, fingers crossed, by the time we have left Kurrimine Beach I shall be up to date with these missives....how did we ever have time to go to work???
